ERIE -- The town is looking for feedback from residents as it looks for ways to increase the revenue-generating potential of the Erie Municipal Airport.

Erie is hosting two public meetings next week as part of its airport economic study. The town recently contracted with Boyd Group International for $48,875 to conduct the study, which is expected to be finished in September.

"The ultimate goal of the study is to find a way to ensure that the airport is financially self-supporting and doesn't need to be subsidized by the taxpayers," said

Erie Mayor Andrew Moore.

He said the open houses, which will be at the airport, are an opportunity for residents to learn more about airport operations and share their concerns.

Moore said the airport is operating at a small loss, unable to generate enough revenue to cover expenses. The town, which last year sold a parcel of airport land to make up the shortfall, requires the airport to be self-supporting.
